About Jillian

a few lines about me.

// Born in Saint Louis,  raised in the Chicago 'burbs,  attended college in Wisconsin  &  now back in wonderful, Saint Louis!

// Registered Nurse at SLU Hospital, a level one trauma, teaching hospital in the city.  My ICU specializes in Liver and Kidney transplant patients. We are the step-sister to all the other hospital's units so we also take overflow medical, trauma, and neuro patients.

// Level 1 CrossFit Trainer at CrossFit Agon- my newest endevour !! I always thought CrossFit was way too expensive and intimidating until a few friends of mine opened a box about a year ago. The intensity aspect challenged me physically more than ever before. The competition pushed me harder than ever before. The results have encouraged me more than ever before. The community aspect has kept me and moreover, it now has me coaching there.

// Battling poor body image.  I remember vividly being called fat by another girl on the playground in first grade. While that is the only time a peer said it to my face, it continued in my head throughout my childhood & teenage years. Negative self-talk still creeps in to this day (less often, thank goodness.)

// Health Nut. A good battle scar of growing up overweight but also a response to how GOOD my body feels after eating WHOLE and NUTRITIOUS foods and after lifting weights, running, a CrossFit WOD (workout of the day).  I don't currently follow a particular method of eating (i.e. paleo, whole 30, zone, etc) but I take bits and pieces of these methods and mesh them together with the goal of eating lots vegetables, lots of lean protein, some good fats, some fruits & some starches.  I am a normal human being though who thoroughly enjoys pizza and chocolate every once in awhile (THANKFUL dark chocolate is acceptable more than every once in awhile.)

// A child of God. In Him I find my true identity. I know that he has fearfully and wonderfully made me to be his daughter. I want to be a good friend, a good nurse, a good coach but most of all I want to be a good follower of my Lord and Savior. I don't do this out of fear that God will strike me down (although this is what I deserve most of the time), but I follow Christ because he took my place and died for every single sin in my life and in my heart.  I don't always accurately share this love with others because it can seem so impossible and so counter-cultural but I want to !  I want my friends, family, co-workers, patients, and neighbors to have the joy of knowing a Savior who offers a free gift: eternal life (no pain, no weakness, no hardships) and unconditional love (no matter what you have done/said/thought)!
